Want to get involved in Australian Women’s Day? Wonderful! It’s so easy to participate. We’ve included a list of suggestions to inspire you but first and foremost, please celebrate your awesomeness in anyway that feels good to you.

  • A series of amazing workshops and conversation circles are being hosted around the country. Check here for something near you.
  • Meet up with friends and talk about what it means to you to be an Australian woman
  • Have a dinner party. Cook from the cookbook of an Australian woman and drink wines made by Australian women
  • Go on a picnic in your favourite part of the Australian countryside or a beautiful park
  • Meet up with your bookclub and talk about a book written by or about Australian women
  • Go on a bush walk/spend time in a national park
  • Swim in the ocean
  • Take a tour with an Aboriginal woman around a sacred women’s site
  • Take a dance class with your daughter, niece, mother, girlfriends
  • Host or participate in a yoga class which focuses on celebrating Australian women
  • Listen to the Australian Women’s Day conversations (coming soon)
  • Listen to the Australian Women’s Day talks (coming soon)
  • Listen to the Australian Women’s Day readings (coming soon)
  • Write an article, a blog post, a poem, a short story talking about what it means to you to be an Australian woman (and be sure to share it with us here)
  • Have a BBQ (and let the men do all the cooking. Unless cooking is a way for you to show off your awesomeness of course)
  • Watch women playing sports on TV (you may need to plan ahead for this one given we’re featured so rarely but remember, You Tube is always an option)
  • Go to the gallery and celebrate Australian women’s art
  • Go to the symphony and celebrate Australian women in the arts
  • Go a music concert featuring an Australian woman
  • Go shopping and buy a piece of clothing that celebrates you (ideally created by an Australian female designer)
  • Call your mum, sister, aunt, daughter, niece, friend for a chat
  • Visit a woman in hospital or an aged care facility and give them the gift of your company
  • Donate to the Australian Women’s Day Trust Fund where 100% of the money will go to charities that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women
  • Donate to another charity that supports Australian women
  • Plan a holiday with friends to somewhere in Australia
  • Start a conversation online
  • Host a women’s circle around a topic you’re passionate about
  • If you have children, get together with another mum and take turns looking after each other’s children while each of you has a massage
  • Download the kids colouring pages here and get your children involved in the day
  • Support a business that’s owned and run by women
  • Host an event that revolves around an Australian women’s issue that you’re really passionate about
  • Write a letter of appreciation to an Australian women you know and mail it by post
  • Go to brunch with your girlfriends
  • Watch a movie starring or directed by or written by Australian women
